Pre World Population Day Dialogue at katikomu Hotel in kayunga District.

The hon minister of state for finance and planning hon Amos Lugolobi ,presided over a pre world population day dialogue on teenage pregnancies and child marriages in Uganda at katikomu hotel in Kayunga District.

 

The dialogue was organized by national planning authority (NPA) and united nations population fund (UNPF) 

 

In attendance was hon Nanyondo Veronica MP bukomansimbi, Dr Nicholas kamara MP kabaale municipality,hon kakembo MP Entebbe municipality was officials from busoga kingdom,civil society partners, leaders from 19 local government in north Buganda sub region.

 

The executive director NPA Dr Joseph Muvawala highlighted that Uganda is challenged with 24% teenage pregnancies and 27% child mother's undermining efforts to build a productive and empowered population.

 

Drivers to these are poverty, poor parenting practices, negative cultural norms, Gender Based Violence cases and lack of appropriate information.

 

He emphasized the need for economic empowerment so as to address tenage pregnancies and early marriages. 

 

The hon Minister applauded the team for the effective dialogue and pledged that it's plans to be considered in implementing the existing policies .

 

He sited an example of how he is trying to curb this problem in kayunga by constructing over 60 classroom blocks and pupils are back in schools and classrooms filled and pledged more for secondary education.

 

He welcomed the team to the commemoration of the world population day that will be hosted by kayunga District today at Busaana town council play ground under the theme " promoting population health and wellbeing through the Parish development model".

 

He further welcomed the them to the ground breaking ceremony of Kayunga - Galiraaya road construction project which will take place today.  

 

His excellence the president will be the chief guest.
